Default Steering problem?

I don't want to sound ignorant but I have a question with no answer. I have an 01 1500 sport with the factory off-road package. Everything is still stock but I seem to have extra sensitive steering. I had a 97 1500 sport and currently have an 05 QC 1500 but the steering on the 01 seems much quicker than either, almost to the point of being squirrely. The steering wheel turns 3 1/4 turns lock to lock and has no noticable play anywhere. I read somewhere that Dodge had put the wrong steering box or gears in some trucks and am wondering if anyone here can help.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Rick

The "rumored" wrong steering boxes, is part true part urban myth. Dodge did alot of " outsourcing" on parts(go figure). But the problems wit hthe boxes were the gears inside the box were machined wrong, and caused the boxes to fail. To the OP, sounds like either the PO did the front end in it at one point, or kept up on the steering box adjustments. Be happy that it feels "sensitive", most of us have to deal with steering that feels more like a boat than a truck.

3 1/2 turns sounds normal, and not like some kind of alternative steering ratio.

a few basic questions.
do you think the alignment is set right. improper toe-in can mess one up.
are the tires wearing normal or not. thats a good indicator of messed up.
check track bar, worn out ones can create real bad side to side shifting.
front tire pressure. make sure its something normal, 30-50. higher that 50 when unloaded can make one darty.

mines about the same 3 1/2 to 3 3/4and its alot better then my buddys 2wd ram, hes got alot of play in it, and its alot harder for him to go into places like me. (need to know the area)

all in all if it turns fine, no sounds or anything, i wouldnt worry about it, id be thankful like other have said

Not really complaining, just feels like it is somewhat unstable especially when cornering. The tires are in good shape and properly inflated. The alignment seems good, tires wearing evenly. Maybe just not used to the higher center of gravity on a short wheel base. I haven't had this truck very long and my 05 4x4 is a QC and the 97 short wheel base reg cab that I had a while back was 4x2 and a lot lower in the suspension. Thanks for the input I will just get used to the steering feeling different.
