Default Leaking Steering Box

Walking out of Napa Friday, my dad noticed the extremley torn up tie rod under Purpl. Out of curiosity I looked under there and noticed the large amount of Power Steering fluid that was coated everywhere. Looked like it was coming from the top of the box where the steering shaft goes into the box. Was just wondering how hard it would be to replace that seal, and how involved it would be to just re-build the whole box.

Thanks!!!
Nathan

When mine was leaking I picked up a bottle of gunk no more leak now. Get a turkey baster and get a much of the power steering fluid out and poor that stuff in. It might take 2 cans to stop the leak.

I tried that with mine and it failed.. still leaked everywhere!.. so after like 4 months and 20 bottles of fluid.. I decided to replace it... it's been over a year and no problems now!

Its not for huge leaks. Mine was small. So it worked, but the hole underside of the truck was coated in ps fluid and it worked on mine. I would try it first than move to a rebuild or new box.

I dont do additives.

I just changed the fluid a year ago to Valvoline Maxlife PS fluid. Sopossed to condition seals, not make them leak!!!

They sell kits to rebuild them, and it's not that hard. Thing is there are one or two special tools required.
