I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 5.9 gas with p1391 code I went to dodge dealer and got a new cam sensor and crank sensor had them put in and still sputters and misses with code p1391 coming on what else could it be
also, the flywheel is the relucter ring as well, check the windows on it, make sure none are damaged, people like to put long screwdrivers in those windows to rotate the engine over( especially if the engine or trans has been changed) dont ask me how i know this..
It could also be the cam sensor (?). I would take it back to the dealer and have them replace it again, under warranty. Make a small mark or paint streak on it, so you know that they did. Then, if it still acting up, try the cam sensor.
Bowlero oil pan and check your crank retainers and your crank look for metal shavings in your oil pickup tube I had the same issue in my 98 Dodge Ram 5.9 after changing everything to no avail I pulled the oil pan found some metal noticed that crank had walked forward and shaved off the crank retainers so the crank is in the wrong position after replacing the crank and retainers runs like a brand new truck 2 years later still running good =Jmmay82;1827322]Hi I have a 2001 ram 2500 5.9 Gas automtaic and I have had a ton of wierd problems with this truck lately it would not start so I replaced the cam and crank sensors the one in the bell housing and the one in the distributer among other parts Now it starts and runs but it runs absolutely terrible I mean bucking and and spitting it is terrible until it warms up as soon as the thermostat opens it runs fine and it throws the p1391 code? Ok i had the p1391 code come up on my 99 dodge ram 318 so I replaced crankshaft sensor an didn't help the way it was running so I changed the pick up coil aka camshaft sensor still didn't help it I replaced timing chain an gears still run like crap so I sanded the ring that the crankshaft sensor reads due to it had some rust on it an it still run like crap so I dropped the gas tank pulled fuel pump out an drained the gas out an come to find out it was 1/2 of gas an 1/2 water so it had bad gas I cleaned the gas tank an put it back in the truck put 93 gas in it that good gas from Exxon busted it off an it run like crap for 3 mins an bam the light went off an my truck came back alive an now my truck runs better then ever I hope this helps mopar fans that has done everything that Google or YouTube say what it can be but not one time it said anything about bad gas will make that code come up so before you waste over 500 bucks trying to find the problem an it could be as simple thing is bad gas so check first if you have bad gas or not it only takes 20 mins to dropped gas tank drain gas an put tank back in alout better then what I done replace everything an it was not the problem what the problem was bad gas hope this helps the next person
