Go ahead, the only negative effect would be a louder exhaust.

Sorry to be the " All Noise" party pooper. For a short time, yes you can run no exhaust. But, expect the only gain you will get is in loudness. You actually hurt performance running just unrestricted pipes. You will lose bottom end(no back pressure). Not to mention the possible PCM/CEL issues. As far as burning a valve. You run it long enough with no exhaust, it becomes not a question of if it burns a valve, but when. But hey enjoy the loudness while you can right?

I understand your point of view, but he's not going to run open headers. I run open headers on my Chevy and going to put a exhaust back on it cause its not cool anymore and I will agree there is a slight loss on the bottom end. Just removing the muffler won't cause any PCM/CEL issues as that's how I ran my truck for the longest time.

Take the muffler off and throw a straight pipe on there. A few weeks ago I tore off my muffler and ran it that way for a couple days until I punched out my cat and threw a piece of pipe in place of the muffler. I love the way it sounds but I'm sure my neighbors will say other wise.

Glad you got your truck fixed. The best thing on a forum is when the members follow up on the repair, and I must say Dodgeforum is the best at this, IMHO.

sorry, but i'm calling bull**** on this one.
running with no headers or no exhaust manifold might warp a valve,
but running open manifolds or open headers will not hurt anything but your ears.
