Default 5-8 inch drop pitman arm?

so im looking at drop pitman arms for my truck and for extreme drops pitman arms all i can get is one for a truck with 5-8 inches of lift for a 1500.

So if i ordered a 5-8 inch drop for a 2500 would it equal 8-11 inches,

i ask this because the 2500 has like 3 inches bigger in suspension compared to 2500

im pretty sure the pitman arms are measured by the size of the offset in the arm. a 0" arm would be straight, a 1" drop arm would have a 1" drop... and so on. it doesnt matter what size lift you need, you just want to offset the lift you have with the proper pitman arm. eg. 4" suspension lift you should run a 4" pitman arm. The goal is to keep the steering gemetry as close to factory as possible, within reason, you dont want to use a 10" drop pitman arm, thats just asking for trouble.

The biggest drop pitman arm that I am aware of is the extreme one. Anything more would just be getting dangerous.

And as far as the size between the half ton unit and the 3/4 ton one, I am pretty sure they are the same. I know the steering box is (as far as the splines on the shaft).

I would suggest calling a seller of the arm and asking them if there is a difference. But I am pretty sure they are the same arm.

If you need one that big its time for hydraulic steering and this. http://www.gearztv.com/projects/sgtrock.html

i was wondering cuz i was planning a 12 inch lift, might not happen now though. if i do it i was just keeping my option open.

As in lift sizes. the stock dodge ram 1500 slt and sports are three inches taller that an LT i believe and CTD is 2-3 inches taller than slt. The pitman arm on mine already is three or so inches dropped(so its not strait)
So i have a 5 inch lift ontop of the three from stock so i would need a 8 inch drop pitman arm correct...

I just installed a "drop" pitman arm for a 5 inch lift which I recieved from Top Gun Customz. The drop arm looks exactly like the stock one (which has a "drop") I took off except that the taper was reamed on the bottom for the TRE rather than the top. So the tie rod is reversed.
TGC lists several drop arms on thier site by different brands.
Along with some other mods I did at the same time this was an excellent choice. My steering is tight and bump steer so far has been nil.
I believe based on my conversations with TGC that all pitman arms are pretty much the same in a given "drop" except for the tie rod taper diameter.

FYI...sport packages and slts do not sit any higher stock than an LT unless they are on a 2500 or 3500. The sport package is an appearence/interior option only.

So if you have a 5 inch lift on a 1500 you need a 5 inch drop pitman.

This is correct. As far as 1500s go, only an Off Road Edition model sits higher than a stock RAM 4X4.

Must you always be putting in your one-liners? You're not that funny.
