Default how common is nv3550

I have an 01 Ram 1500, 4x4, with a 5.2 and nv3550, regular cab shortbed. How common is the V8 and 5speed in the regular cab shortbed trucks? I see regular cab short beds all the time with either an auto behind the 5.2, or a nv 3550 behind the V6. Never have seen this configuration before.

Welcome to the forums!

There is no such thing as a NV3550. There was the NV3500 used in the 1500s behind the 5.2L V8 and the 3.9L V6, the NV4500 used behind the 5.9L V8 in the 2500s, and the NV4500HD used behind the V10/diesels in the 2500s/3500s.

Not that common. I can't put a number on it, but I was reading the other day that over 95% of the people in the country now don't know how to drive stick shifts. Even been catching a lot of local dealers calling the new "autostick" transmissions "stick shifts".

Theres no such this as a nv3550? Were you being sarcastic since sticks are hard to come by? Anyways, I believe the stats about people not being able to drive sticks, **** they can't drive at all now.

That statistic should be changed to 95% dont know how to drive at all.

There is no such thing as the NV3550. It does not exist.

Like they have already stated, it is really a NV3500. And yes, you don't see very many of them because they are quite uncommon... there around, most V8's got an auto tranny.

That is a very nice combo you have there, though. I am jealous as all hell. I remember the day I ordered my truck like it was yesterday... I wanted the 360 and a 5 speed, but Dodge would not make that combo in a half ton (only the 3/4 ton), so I gave in and got the 360/auto. If I had to do it over again, no doubt would I have gone with the 318/manual.... damn the hindsight.

I know of two trucks in my area that are manual 1500's. One is an 01 360 ext cab, the other is 97 318 scsb. Lol, there was a 97 v10 manual my friends dad had, but he sold it Obviously each truck I listed has a different trans, but yeah... guess I never realized 5.2 and 5.9 gas have different manual transmissions. Learned something new today.

Edit
It says here that 5.2's and 5.9's got the nv4500 too.

Nice finds, but that manual with the 5.9L V8 is either not a 1500 (a 2500) or its a custom conversion. The 1500s with the bigger V8 were not made at the factory with any manuals, just automatics.

Correct, the NV4500 could bolt up to either V8, but the 1500s with 5.2L V8s came with the NV3500, not the NV4500.

The 3550 was offered in the jeep wranglers, just not in the rams.

NV4500 went to the 3/4 ton V8's and the NV4500HD went to the V10 and diesels.

Thanks for the correction. Just saying that the NV3550 (I never know there acually was one!) never came in the Rams.
