I'm getting ready to install a cork oil pan gasket. What's the best way to install it? with rtv or without? I've never really had good luck with them even though I torque them down right. Thanks
Yeah, I'd stay away from cork. Harley used to use cork gaskets on their rocker boxes. The problem is that although they work great when new, after numerous heat/cool cycles they tend to dry out and get stiff losing their ability to expand and contract and seal properly. We all know the reputation Harleys had for leaking. On something like an oil pan gasket, a good rubber gasket or RTV will last much longer.
I just kept the question real simple because we all (including myself) tend to get off topic real fast. I'm getting ready to put a oil pan on a mazda, that's all. Plus I've always been curious if I've been doing it right. By the way, thanks for the quick replies fellas!
