Default 2001 Dodge Ram 4X4 (4x4 not working) need help

i just bought a 2001 dodge ram 4x4... it is a extended cab short bed with automatic transmission (4x4 shifter on the floor). with a 5.9L V8.

Just recieved the truck everything is good except the 4X4 is not working. The truck stays in 2WD all the time. When i move the shifter to 4X4 the indicator in the dash will not illuminate.

Where can i start my diagnosis? if there any common things i should look for?

Its a good think i checked out my 4x4 before i went muddin

check the actuator on the axle. clean the connection.

sounds like the actuator is not engaging. Try going in reverse 10 feet, and PUT IT IN NEUTRAL when shifting it into 4wd, then shift into gear and check it.

the actuator is if your lookin on the back side of the axle its to the right.
