Rain getting into door.
My drivers door speaker has been sounding very garbled recently. I think I have it narrowed down to rainy days. I haven't removed the door panel yet but does anyone know what I can do to figure out where the water is entering the door?
it would have to be the mirror mount cover or the sill weatherstripping. as far as the weatherstripping, you can just pull directly up on it to remove to reseat or replace it...no need to take anything alse apart.
Try weather proofing the speaker on the back side or use a speaker baffle.
To find the leak, Remove the door trim and set a garden sprinkler on it. You can look for it from inside using a flash light.

I just replaced my speakers and didnt see any water damage on the old ones and while you may get a few drops it really shouldnt get a lot of water in there....mine seal up really good...(of course i replaced the weatherstripping a month ago.)
Thanks for the replies. I thought about sitting inside and letting my wife spray water from the hose on the window. I just hate to take the panel off. The little brackets that hold the fasteners are almost all gone. If any more of them break the door might rattle or not even go on.
I will take a look at the weather stripping later today hopefully. Do you mean the stripping around the actual door frame or the stripping around where the window lowers inside the door when rolled down?
I've never messed with either so I don't want to remove it and not be able to get it back on. Where do you buy more of this at (autozone type store or only at dealer)?

More than likely it is, and they are referrng to the door frame weatherstriping. But you can always check both while you have the hose out. As far as new weatherstriping, LMC Truck, and JC Whitney carry it .
I only had a few minutes to take a look at the weatherstripping before it got dark out. It looks perfectly fine. Not saying that it is not the issue but for those that have had a similar problem as mine, did the weather stripping look fine?
I can take a picture of it tomorrow if need be. I just hate to replace it if it's not really the problem.

I would think logically the only stripping that would cause water to go into the door would be the window sill strip the piece at the bottom of the window. Thats the one that pulls right up and out (as well as the inside piece) many times they harden and crack or dont hold the right shape anymore
it you do need to replace it they are like $60 for for piece set on ebay I did mine in 5 mins. the rubber coated metal strip along the edge had rusted and bubbled up.
