I went to the DIY thread (Ram 2nd Gen DIY information and links) and found the link for replacing the T-stat (#26). I figured I could use this as a base for just to replace my gasket.

Just my luck the pictures are not available. I really need this as I am not mechanically inclined. Just reading the steps does no justice for me. Is it possible to get these pics for reference?

your welcome. i was just informed that the DIY you looked at is for a CTD and not the v8. so which one do you have?
if you click the link at the top of any page that says "User CP" then click "edit details" in the top left corner of that page you can put info on your truck in there.
or you can click the link in the User CP that says "edit signature" and put the truck info there.

 

Why would you go that far and not replace the t-stat?

 

yea...as the above suggested, you might as well replace the thermostat while you're there. its a common practice and will save you trouble later on down the road if it happens to crap out.

I figured I would change the stat also, just talked about the gasket. Can I just use the gasket or do I need to buy some of the silicone(?) with it?

 

Gasket should be fine

 

i would put a small small bead about 1/4 in thick around the gasket, just so when it goes bad again it has reienforcment
