Default Spark Knock?

I have a 2000 with a 5.9L in it. I get a spark knock during acceleration but not during general running. I have replaced the timing chain, distributor cap and rotor bug which has helped improve it a little bit. Picked the brain of a dodge mechanic and he says to retard my timing a little bit by setting distributor back a tooth or two. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to get to the bolt to loosen the distributor to retard it a bit. Any ideas/suggestions out there?

Do NOT do what the mechanic suggested! Your problem is the plenum gasket is blown, the cat is gone or going as is the precat o2 sensor. Do a search here for "plenum" and you will find all the info you need about the topic.
