I'd go with the 3" BL, I was dead set against one but when you run low on funds u do what ya gotta, now- best thing I ever did- I can work/fix/modify more things on this baby than ever before!!!! However, just a 2" or 3" BL is cheezy, you gotta have a suspension lift to go with it!
No body lift in my sig pic, just 5" susp

The 2 or 3" is a just personal preference, both pretty much require the same amount of work. As far as the frame showing, its not too bad on a 2nd gen Dodge... Chevy's are a joke, but the Dodges are hardly even noticeable unless you know what you are looking at.
Heres a 3" body lift (and a 3" suspension).

The steering shaft should be cut/extended, as well as the shifter linkages for certain years (although mine were adjustable - 2000 model). The gas tank filler/breather hoses need to be cut/extended. The radiator shroud needs to be lowered. A bracket on the inside of the drivers side fender needs to be installed to keep the shifter linkage parallel (I had to make mine - but most kits come with a supplied bracket). Bumpers need to be raised (typically with supplied brackets).
I am sure there is more that I forgot, but I cant remember back that far hahahaha
