Default #5 misfire

I have 01 dodge ram 5.9l and just recently have had the engine come and go and now stays. checked at auto zone and #5 misfire and did tune-up. new wires, cap, rotor, plugs(gapped correctly) figuring this may resolve the problem. No such luck. Took it to a guy who does my service work when it is beyond my ability. He found that the #5 plug was dry and decided to replace the injector. Light came on when I was leaving his shop and I let him keep it to fix again. He replaces the same injector (no he didn't keep charging me) again and it still seemed to run rough. So I'm thinking maybe bad gas. So I decide to run the truck for awhile to see if it clears, light comes back and problem persists. I don't want to keep sending the truck in to the shop to plug and play parts at my expense. Could it be the main computer module? In review of the Haynes manual it seems to be the only thing that feeds the injectors electrically speaking. If this is the problem does this module need to be programmed before it is installed or what. I did nothing to the vehicle prior to this happening and am stumped!!!!!!!

Default RE: #5 misfire

My dad went thru the same hell on his 1996 dakota. It ended up being a the fuel rail for the number 5 cylinder was clogged. They had to replace the whole rail, but it runs like new now. It may be the same issue with your 5.9
