Valve Cover Gaskets
So my valve cover gaskets are getting a bit moist around the edges (still have perfect oil level) So i want to replace the valvecover gaskets. Ive done many, but not on a V8 where theres 2. now they look pretty easy, but are there any kinks that anyone runs into? is it a breeze?
It's very easy, the gaskets should be rubber so no need for RTV or anything. Remove the valve covers, make sure the mating surfaces are decently clean and put the new gaskets on, I torqued mine all evenly to 5 ft/lbs and no leaks.
is it a breeze..... i also like to check if the valve cover is blent(like the person before me over tighten) just sit it on the table or sum thing flat
also felpro gasket are great!!..but a little on the high side$$$ but worth the money

you could always replace the gaskets regardless, but if you're not too worried about it, first i would check to make sure the valve cover bolts are not loosening. they tend to do that after a while. i've had valve cover bolts come loose to the point where i could spin it with my fingers. just retorque them, clean up the oil seepage and see where it goes from there

i read in the haynes repair manual that they should be re-torqued every oil change
i havent re-torqued them at all since ive had the truck (4 oil changes)
but i got one side done, and its nice and dry now. im taking on the other side today, an ordering my hughes plenum plate and intake gasket kit
