Default need some ac advice

Got my first dodge 2 weeks ago, 2001 ram sport 1500, and had a question.

With the ac switch off in the cab the ac clutch is always engaging and

dis-engaging. I know this cant be good for gas mileage, and coming into

winter I dont need any problems with freezing up. I live in colorado and it can

get quite cold. Any suggestions or help you could give me would be great.

Also Ive seen on other threads the problem with giving it gas and the

heater/ac blowing out the defrost? Thank you in advance for your time.

The A/C compressor is electrically switched whereas the wild vents problem is a vacuum issue. I doubt they are related. Could be a bad relay or A/C switch causing the compressor to kick on and off.

The compressor cycles no matter what. To keep the internals oiled and to aid in removing condensation when you are using the defrosters for instance.

check the switch on the compressor... broken wires? broken switch housing? electrical tape? (usually a telltale sign that something is up...lol)

Thank you for all your help, but if it is normal for the clutch to en-dis-engage all the time wont the built up condensation just keep freezing when its 10 degrees outside? Yesterday i ran drove to the store with the heater on for 10 min. and it dripped water like it was june, it was only 45 degrees out.
Thank you

I have a similar problem maybe the same.

The A/c compressor runs with the climate control in any position but off.

People have said that the compressor does run to keep windows from fogging, but there is no way it should be blowing cold A/C when you just want cool fresh vent air.

I just ended up pulling my compressor relay for the winter, or until I figure out whats wrong.

thats definately a problem. the compressor only works with the ac and with the defrost on the cool side. compressor should not lock in ANY heated position.

i don't know if my compressor engages but in the face/feet position with the temp **** on cold it is a lot colder than when its just on face.
on my dads 98 it has the snowflake next to face/feet but my 00 doesn't.

There is no problem, it's just the way the system works! Simple as that.
