The heater core is under the dash, and DIY= Do It Yourself.

Hey guys its been a while since I've been on...

So I'm thinking that maybe its not the heater core? Just because I feel the heater hose from the engine going into the cab, and then I feel the hose coming out of the cab and they feel like the same temperature. They are both hot enough where I cant hold my hand there for long. I cant remember the temp the truck runs at but its just a bit hotter then the middle line.

Could it be a problem with the divider system behind the turn thermostat in the cab somewhere?

Or maybe I need a different thermostat in the engine?

Thanks

Just so you know, both hoses can be hot and you still can have crappy heat. It's a flow thing.

Oh really? So what would your suggestion be? Try cleaning out the heater core? Trucks only got 62,000 on it. Even for that mileage it still might need to be done?

Default Recirculate

my 97 1500 does the same damn thing. I've flushed it. I've replaced the thermo etc etc. I find if I put the vent setting on the recirculate the cab air mode instead of defrost or vent or floor etc I get nice hot air, cab stays warm, windshield defrosts / defogs. I also hear the water running like your trucks. I have no clue what the problem is, but at least for my truck putting it on the recirculate setting keeps me warm. I live in the Northeast too so I can understand you needing the truck to be warm!

I would try back flushing the heater core first. Doesn't have to have a lot of mileage for corrosion to build in the cooling system. Sometimes non use can be just as bad in many ways for a vehicle.
