Default grinding in rear end?

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 sport 4x4 5.2L and when i take off or turn it sometimes feels like a grinding in the rear end and shakes the truck a little bit. What could be the problem?

thanx

yes it is the offroad edition, in the rear end for sure, the u joints from the driveshaft to the axle, there is a leak, would that cause it?

Check the differential fluid, it's the plug that's probably leaking.

checked it a little while ago and the it was pretty bad but barely had the money to get an oil change with times like today, i was told it was probably the seal for the u joint for the driveshaft, but would the quality of the fluid and grease would make it grind?

I had the EXACT same situation a few months ago. 00 ram 1500 offroad edition. There was a small leak coming from my back u-joint connecting to the rear lsd. Continued to drive it for a little (was at college didnt really ahve a choice). There was grinding while i turned (so i turned alot wider) and sometimes grinding at take off.

My rear LSD was SHOT, the cage inside was completely cracked and completely wasted. Put in a rebuild kit for a few hundered. Wasnt that bad. But take it to a shop or check it out yourself, 95% positive that your lsd is shot as well.

Oh and what would cause the leak, your seal is shot. That should come with the rebuild kit. Get ti to a shop quick or keep putting in dif fluid or else your lsd will seize soon.
