4x4 question about limited slips.
I know I have a lsd in the rear how dose that work when I put it in 4x4. Are both of my rear tires spinning or does it do what the front does when only one tire will shoot mud and the other is just moving.
I'm a bit confused and have always wanted to know but to hell if I'm standing behind my truck when someone floors it and throws mud all over me. My buddy made that mistake the other night with the new mud tires on. I painted his hemi brown.
Also I can't seem to find my hub caps do I need to put them on or is it more for looks?
4x4 locks the axles together, not the tires. Therefore, with an open front end like you have, if a front tire slips, all the power in the front is still transferred to that tire (it'll spin). The rear, however, having its LSD, will still get you some traction.
Question: how the hell can you lose the center caps when you change tires?

the LSD has nothing to do with you engaging 4WD. the transfer case will couple the front driveshaft to the rear. The LSD is always active. It uses friction plates to tie each axle to the center housing, when you turn, the force is to great and the plates slip on each other allowing the differential to operate.

Yep, for sure. A limited slip will lock both (rear) axles together under most straight line circumstances, but when turning or one tire is under a heavy load it will unlock a cause the dreaded one wheel peel. And yes, it basically does this whenever you really need true posi... which is why a hate limited slips.

Depends what type of LSD you have.
Trac-Lok will lock the diff when 1 wheel spins faster than other one on same axle, so will lock up on tight turns too... but don't worry the clutch plates in it will slip if you do this on dry asphalt. The 4x4 lever on the Ram locks the front axle to rear axle so only use on low grip surfaces or you will bust your transfer case or tranny.
