Question Have to do my heater core....or maybe not

IO have noticed for a little while now that when I turn my heat on an antifreeze smell waifs from the vents. Today as I was getting out of the truck I noticed a rather strong smell of antifreeze outside the truck on the passenger side. I am wondering if this means I have a leak other than the heater core, or both. I am going to try and take a quick look this afternoon when I get home to try and determine where the smell is coming from under the hood. On a related note, the speed **** for the fan in my truck only works now in the highest setting. I wonder if that could be the fan motor going bad or a rely going bad.

Any advice on either of these two issues would be greatly appreciated

BTW, I have downloaded and printed out the relevant areas of the FSM post in the stickies.

Is your window fogging? Drips on the carpet? Those are tell-tale heater core signs.....

No drips or fog in the vehicle (I was just in the passenger side dash a couple of weeks ago ti finish up the CD install). 95RAM, the smell is much stronger outside the truck. I had the radiator replaced a year or so ago and I am wondering if something else is leaking. I have noticed a little puddle on the drivers side front of the truck but looking at it from the top I can't see anything on that side that could be leaking. I am planning on getting under it this weekend to take my tow hooks off for painting, I am going to take a good lock then.

look at the water pump, then look what it bolts to. this is called the timing cover, and they tend to leak coolant. look down in on pass. side, and you'll see if its leaking, with mine it was a fine leak, and when running the radiator fan would blow it around, so it never hit the ground. and when sitting, it never hit the ground, but i could definatly smell it, so look closly

Thanks 95RAM. I will take a peak this afternoon before I leave work. Does any one have an idea about the blower motor as well?

It blows air but only on the high setting the other setting do nothing. I really do miss the lower settings. I saw a couple of other threads here with same thing happening and other have said it might be the motor. One guy replaced a resistor block every 6 months or so (new resistor block fixed the problem but for only 6 months). I really don't want to just treat the symptoms, I would rather treat the underlying problem.

sounds like a short. and that sounds like the resistor not the motor. check the wiring if you can get in there, and be sure to check the grounds
