Believe me I have considered the start button and to be honest I really dont care if that is what it comes down too. I have pulled the volt meter out several times...but unfortunately if you don't know what you are doing it is kinda of pointless..haha

I have a pretty good understanding of auto mechanics and can fumble my through just about any job..thanks to the internet.

I am going to have another crack at this thing tomorrow..I appreciate every ones help.

The ground circuit goes thru the NSS. To test, use a continuity tester and connect one lead to the socket of pin 85 and the other to ground. You should have continuity if the NSS is adjusted properly. Try this in park and neutral. It should work in both those positions. If it does not, try moving the shifter thru all the gears back to park and neutral and see what happens. If you get continuity while doing this, it means you have an out of adjustment switch. If no continuity at all, I would check the NSS for proper ground.

The sole purpose if the NSS is to connect that ground circuit to ground only in the park and neutral position thus allowing the starter to engage.

Ok, update on this. I checked for continuity in the relay socket and I am getting power every where except 87. 85 has power when the key is turned to start and through all the gears. I am also getting a clicking sound coming from the brake master/booster area on the initial turn of the key to on position. So with socket 87 not getting any power where does that leave me? From what I understand this terminal goes to the starter solenoid...does this mean the solenoid is bad, maybe a bad connection ...just dont understand why it doesn't get power up in the relay?

87 shouldn't have power with the relay removed.
when you turn the key on the 85/86 sockets should get power.
the 30 socket should always have power (connected straight to the battery).
the 87 socket doesn't get power until you energize the relay and close the circuit between the 30 and 87 sockets.

Remove the covers off the steering column and inspect the wires, also get a Haynes manual and trace the wires, there might be an inline fuse. Or maybe the shift linkage needs adjusting. Have you tried to pull up on the shift handle and try it?
