Default Check engine light code

The check engine light showed up the other day on the babied 97 ram with 98,000 on it. I did the check that comes built into the truck and it came up with 1/2 and ?42. They where 1/2 O2 censor and ?42 Cylinder Misfire. What do you guys think i should do? There is the option of replacing the 02 but wouldn't that just be warning that it is to lean or rick? so then for the misfire how should i go about finding what that problem is? doesn't a misfire link directly to o2 sensor warning?

I am new here, and need help! i read what i could from the book, but didn't find anything on misfire from Unknown piston #.

Should i immediately stop driving?

Thanks for any help!

I personally think, in order for us to help YOU, you have to write your thread, PROOF READ IT, THEN post it. Honestly I have no clue as to what your asking. After reading that, I feel like I'm dyslexic.

Fix plenum, replace o2, replace or gut cat, plugs, wires, cap and rotor.Use seafoam to clean the carbon off the valves after.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry for the confusion, I was too worried about the problem. Could you guys tell me where to buy the plenum thing? and also what it does? is this a normal problem for these engines? Thanks

it is a normal problem i just fixed mine with the hughes plenum kit. thats what youwant to use because it makes it so you wont have to worry about it again. and you get more power.

http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...d&partid=22078

pretty easy job. i did it myself in 18 hours including 6-7 hours of cleaning, and another 2 hours for leaking fuel injector o-rings, and routing the wires on dist. cap wrong.

Hey so german, what codes did you pull and what are your symptoms? I'm sure your plenum is bad, I mean, it's a dodge ram, but I say stick to prioritizing your problems. Fixs your codes THEN your belly pan.

This might help, but it's most likely not the real problem. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1998/18-48-98/18-48-98-v8.htm
