Should I Paint My Rear?
I heated my trim with a hair dryer and carefully pulled it away. I used some goo gone to remove any residue but needed to buff where some of the older emblems were. ScratchX or something similar will work.
now that sucks!!! luckily i am the only owner of this truck, if i find something like that it would have to have come from the factory like that.
im gonna try to remove some of it today.
does the big strip on the tailgate just pull off too?

After you remove the emblems and trim...try the look with the strip intact.
You can remove that rear plastic tailgate panel. Its just held on with double-sided foam tape. Use a heat gun (hair dryer doesnt do ****) to get the tape soft and pliable, then use a plastic putty knife to get behind the panel. Use some rubbing compound to remove the tape residue, and then give it a good coat of wax. BTW this also applies to emblems and side moulding.
Strip?....never had one.
I'm not sure that 2000 models had them. This truck was built as a fleet vehicle, so I'm pretty sure the bare bones package didn't come with it if it was avalible
Go easy with the rubbing compound, that stuff is pretty gritty for clearcoat. Scratch x is a very very fine cut product

i use 3m rubbing compound...i like it. i used it to remove the bad scrathes when i removed my factory over the lip bed liner. it looked so good i had to do the whole truck.
the 3m compound also works great with gelcoat...i use it with all of my boats.
