Default A/C Compressor - running while not using AC?

I just noticed this morning that my compressor kicks on for 3-4 secs. Is it suppose to kick on even when i'm not using the AC? It was cold this morning Northern VA....

Many thanks in advance

The AC system runs cycles when you have the defrost on to help remove the moisture from the air in the cab.

I just got done swapping motors in a 99 Ford Explorer, the AC cycles on that also, so It's not just a Dodge thing.

Yes it is suppose to do that. The A/C has a filter dryer(Sometimes called an accumulator) in the line to remove moisture. It will run using the defroster to dry the air passing through it. It wil run in the heat mode to cycle the air some. Basically every position on the dial runs the compressor.

Every position except the "feet only" and "front dash only".
