Default Engine Swap!

I blew my 5.2 engine in my 94 ram 1500. Manual tranny. Was wondering if a 1999 5.2 will bolt on to my manual transmission/work with my existing equiptment.

The 1999 5.2 comes with all the wiring harness..

What do you guys think?

If it was 94-96 would I still need the computer? Will an engine from automatic trans bolt to manual trans?

Thanks,
Nick

If the engine you're using is from an automatic transmission you will DEFINITELY NOT want to use the PCM from the auto truck.

the 99 5.2 will bolt up to the NV3500 same as your blown up motor does.

Not sure if you need the new wiring harness or not. I know there is some difference in the 5.9s between like 94-98 and like like 99-2002, but I'm not sure about the 5.2s, or if it would cause any wiring problems.

Yes. You need your 94 EGR intake manifold on the newer engine. As with any swap on the forum I suggest pulling the old engine out and sitting it side by side. Look at the connectors and see what is different. In this case since you need to use the 94 intake, swap it all (leave injectors, fuel rails, tb brackets, etc on the manifold when you swap). Again, compare other connectors. If there is a difference, use the 94 sensors. The one other thing you might want to check on is the fly wheel. ( I know 318/360's use different ones, but I can't remember if the trans plays a part or not. (if it were me I wouldn't chance it and use your 94 again. Wish you luck!

Edit: Also this is a great time to replace the plenum if it is bad on your 94 intake.

Plenum was JUST replaced. All gaskets just replaced. Figured I had bad headgaskets ( I did ) problems are much deeper then expected and I am strapped for time before winter gets here!

So the intake/egr port is all that is affected by the OBDIII? My intake was completely bead blasted and rebuilt, and throttle body was cleaned polished and rebuilt. Using old flywheel isnt a problem, it's practically brand new. But will it bolt on to the existing manual transmission? like, there wont be any problem as far as fitting goes?

Just a heads up. If your new engine comes from an automatic truck you'll need to get the new pilot bearing with the sleeve since the autos dont get the sleeve put in the crank.
