Default Painting Rims need advice

Like the post says, I got some new tires put on my stock rims for the winter but the finish is peeling off like a bitch, I want to paint them so I am looking for advice on stripping them, painting them, and any color scheme/style ideas
Thanks, Dr D

Stripping the paint is easy enough, get some paint stripper at the home center. If you really want to make it easy on yourself, I stopped using paint stripper a while back and found something much better, easier to use. At Home Depot and Lowes they have an Adhesive remover for getting rid of the glue from old industrial flooring tiles (like the ones used in schools and government buildings) It is really strong to bring up that dried glue and it eats through paint in seconds instead of hours. Be careful though it will eat through your skin just as fast also. Use gloves and don't scratch your nose with a dirty finger. It seems like your nose always starts to itch when you can't scratch it.

Black wheels look great on silver trucks. See if you could get them powdercoated.

I did't strip my old finish, just scuffed it out with a drill 3/8" cup brush, then followed with some 220 grit sand paper.

If you really want a smooth like glass finish I wouldn't stop at 220. That's good for many things but for auto quality finish I would recommend 300, 600, 800, 1500 whichever you can find in your area, and whichever your pocket book can afford. The finer you go, the better the finish. When they paint a car body, they don't stop at 220 grit when prepping. If they did, you would see scratches under your paint job.

Okay thanks for the input I don't think I will go with powdercoating as I don't wanna pay to re-mount and balance I do have a few paint guns though will a regular automotive paint work, Was also thinking about to toning them with the charcoal paint I have for the truck.

Automotive paint and a clear coat should be fine.

Personally, I wouldn't use auto paint. Instead, I chose engine paint as black rim paint is sometimes difficult to find. For the clear coat, I used clear rim paint.

Both paints will work. The clear is the most important step. Put a few coats on to get a really good seal on your paint. Remember you will be getting brake dust and road crap on them.
