Default Rear differential capacity

My 2001 Dodge Ram that is 2wd and has 3.55 rear gears should take 3 quarts in the Differential right?

According to the build sheet:
Lock-Up Torque Converter
3.55 Axle Ratio
Corporate 9.25 LD Rear Axle

so 2.5 qts. got it, thanks!

My 9.25 only took 2 and a half quarts. No LSD with stock gears. I wish I had LSD!!!

Please use more descriptive thread titles. Not only does it help people see what the thread is about without clicking on it, but it helps someone else looking for the same info find it by using the search function.

I hope you checked your manual instead of going off what J145 said for the fluid weight. As I recall not only does the limited slip equiped diffs take a different weight, they also take a limited slip additive (depending on if fluid purchased needs it or not). OP from memory, I think it is 75-140w or something like that for the limited slips but check your manual. Some brands of fluid such as Royal Purple for example include the limited slip additive in their fluid so pay attention to that as well. If your fluid does not include the additive, get one that does or make a trip to dodge for the additive.

He has a 9.25 LD (light duty) axle, which is not an LS. He has the build sheet now, and doesn't have to go by what anyone says.

And you don't have to go to Dodge for the additive. It is available in almost any auto parts store.

I hope everyone on this forum doesn't go off of what 1 person says! It's better to go off of what the majority says...oh, and, J145?
