Default Accelerator linkage stuck

for the last month, I havnt been driving my 98 5.2L because its been low idling and stalling all the time. my buddy came over with his diagnostics computer, and it threw out no codes, so we're suspecting vaccum problems. anyway, yesterday I decide to take my multimeter and do a test on the TPS sensor just like the chilton's describes, with my ignition in the ON position. I wasnt getting any voltage at all, so I assumed the TPS is bad. So I put the air filter back on, reconnect the TPS wiring harness get back in my truck, and now all of a sudden, the Check Engine light is on, and I cant press in the gas pedal at all. The gas pedal is totally firm after using my multimeter!!!! What did I do?

Thanks

i would check your linkage and see if you got something hung up....the only other thing i could think of, which i dint even know if its possible is that you fried the tps and its got your shaft stuck

I agree, the pedal linkage is mechanical, therefore it must be a mechanical problem.
Either linkage or cable.
Now that you got an engine light, maybe it'll throw you a code now.

All I did was take off the air filter, take off the TPS wiring harness, check the TPS sensor with the multimeter, move the throttle while checking the TPS sensor (like chilton said), then plug back in the sensor harness and put back on the air filter.

I also briefly connected the wiring harness to the multimeter, which later I saw that chilton said not to do because it may damage the PCM. I'm actually guessing thats what I did and that it might have something to do with the pedal being stuck now as a safety precaution. Did I toast my PCM?

There is nothing "electronic" about the cable system for the throttle. You've got the cable hung somewhere, or you didn't get it threaded on the guides right when you put the TB back on. I'll try to get ya a pic of the cable routing tomorrow, but I can't guarantee anything.

Thanks Laramie, those pics would be great.... but just so you know, I never took any cables off of any guides, and I never even took off the TB. All I took off was the air filter so I could access the TPS easier, then I took off the TPS wiring harness so I could test the TPS with my multimeter. I'll double check tomorrow, but I swear, thats all I did.....

Hmm, well I do know that I've knocked the cable off myself just taking the air hat off.... Odd.

don't panic.
pedal or cable is probably hung. remove air filter, inspect.
tps is just a sensor on the drivers side. you can easily remove it with 2 torx screws and a wiring connector to ensure its not part of the problem. it only goes in one way, so don't worry about messing it up.

i once bound up my throttle by routing the cable wrong on the passenger side. it should be over or under a guide plate. i had mine backwards and it was stuck.
