Default $650 ram 1500 should i buy?

so a guy i work with rolled his dodge last winter. some of the steering and few extras have been sold and now he want to get rid of the whole truck.

Im not 100% sure how bad the body or motor is but he said its stock and all major parts are there. body shouldnt be to bad since it was in deep snow...He wasnt at work today so i didnt get to ask him all the questions

If i was to buy the truck would it be a good idea to rebuild the motor....Its a 360 and id rebuild to a 408 or 426 but would a rolled motor still be good as long as there are no cracks and stuff?

And if the gears were a LSD would it be ok to swap them in mine. i wont do unless LSD or Lockers

If you have the noney and a place to store it, why not? Plenty of spare parts and if the motor and tranny are good, that has to be worth more than $650 right there. Keep the parts you want and sell those you don't. I think it would be a good investment if the truck isn't totally trashed.

The first thing that popped in my mind when you said it was in deep snow was RUST!!! Look around for rust. Walk around the body with a magnet and attach it at various places of the body. If it sticks, then it's metal. If it doesn't, then there's bondo or filler there.

usually the rolling a truck does not hurt the engine and tranny unless he his something first. you would be getting more than $650 dollars in parts.

i dont think he is too worried about the body. it just sounds like he wants the truck as a donor truck for parts and the motor for a rebuild

The last thing I would worry about with a rolled truck is rust.

I'd say buy it if you have room to store it.

nothing at all wrong with a rolled engine as long as it didn't hit anything or get bashed up.

if the rolled truck is the same year range as yours (00-01, or 97-99) then you can use a lot of the parts. if its not in the same range, then be aware that some of the parts may not be interchangeable.

offer him $500.
