Default engine swap...

hey guys, ive posted a few things before about engine swaps, and i tryed using the search and the search thinks im retarted and it confuses me( not to hard) but i want to put something with a bit more bump to it under the hood... i have the " little brother" ( hd to miami) 318, i know the 5.9 is a swap in choice, but is the sensors and wiring the same for that motor? i mean i would get it, and rebuild it, put the 1.7s in it, hughes plenum, and all the goodies on it before i swapped it in, but i need more to push my 37's ( soon to be 41's) and turn them all nicely wihtout being in low gear... any sugestions? i know the 408 is out there too, but thats just to much motor to be driving on the street for me... this truck will be one of the ones in town that will drive to the mud hole, play, then drive home... ya know, and to me the 408 SEEMS to be to much... i dont know, could be wrong...

gears and a higher stall would be the 1st thing too do bra

engine mods to help would be tune up whole lot with sythetic oil to get the motor to run the best

then mods like 1.7 harland sharps
fastman
FI airgap
longtube headers cats no mufflers with a x pipe serious
clearwater heads are nice to have and you shouldnt need much more than that

Just the gears alone would do it. Which axles do you have? dana 44 up front and dana 60 in the rear?

+1 on gears first and foremost. 4.56's at minimum for those size tires. Also plan engine mods based more on torque than horsepower. Torque is what gets everything moving. These magnums make pretty decent torque numbers, maximizing it will get you where you want to be.

don't you have 4.10 gears? those are great for a 33" tire, but with 37" tires they would be equivalent to stock gears with a 33" tire.

so yeah, 4.56 or 4.88 gears for sure.

yea i have the dana 60 axles front and rear with the 4.10s, i am going to regear it when i save the money, cause when i regear it i am trying to decide on like what selectable locker i want in both... i just took a look at the detroit elocker... seems good but i cant find anyone runnign bigger then a 33 on it,,, so makes me iffy...

and yes, i plan on getting something for the motor to push more torque, i love torque... i mean that really is just what power is, thats why deisel guys have it easy....

and as for lastrights... i have a 2700 stall in there now... dont want much more then that.... i dotn have a crystler trans anymore... well its designed off one, but the speed shop calls it there millenium trans, if i blow anything on this trans, i bring it back and they upgrade it for free... almost 10 years now and not one person has brought there trans back for a problem... i dont know what it is...

they don't use oem clutches or the oem torque converter.

re gearing will give you plenty of torque if you go with the correct size for the tires you run. especially with a good plenum gasket and the 1.7 RR's.

you could also put a new set of heads on it and do the roller rockers while the heads are off the truck. i think alabama ram got 70+hp with new heads alone.

Since you want to step to 41" tall tire I would skip 4.56 and would look at 4.88 if not 5.13 if you really want to have good off road power.

yea, if i do gears it will be 5.13's cause if anyone didnt know the D60 has to get a differant carriers for differant gears.. like i think its 3.55 or what ever, to 4.10's is one carrier, then 4.56 and up to like 7.17 gears is a totaly differant carrier.. so i have to look at that too, but i guess it wouldnt matter cause both the 4.88 and 5.13 are both above 4.56,,,, im stupid, takes me a few to get it... right tht is... and yes.. i will be looking into a set of heads for the 360 and some roller rockers, the plenum stuff... shoud be good..
