Default tranny, help!

hey i just wanted to run this problem past you guys and see if anyone may know something. i changed my trans fluid and filter a few months ago, before the service the trans shifted fine. now sometimes it wont shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. i used atf4 and nothing broke or went wrong. and it doesnt slip, and when it does shift it shifts smoothly. i was wondering maybe it has something to do with a computer or something that tells it when to shift? anyone know anything?

i did notice there is a lot more fluid in there that there should be though, would that affect it? the fluid is about 1.5" - 2" past the max line on the dipstick

+1 overfill will affect it.

if the problem still continues, substatute a quart with Lucus transmission stop slip.

REMEMBER to check when truck is running in neutral to get a proper reading.

they man a deal that uses shop air and it acts as a vacuum. u just stick the hose down the dip stick tube and it sucks it out. those are kinda expensive tho. the only other way ik of is to drop the pan. and when u put the fluid back in run it threw all the gears while it is running and take ur reading in N

+1 make sure when you run it through the gears start at 1, leave in gear for 10 seconds then 2, for 10 seconds, and so on. then yes check when in Neutral, in park it will not have the right reading.

when i checked mine in park when i first got it, it showed full. then when i found you had to check it in neutral i found i was 2 1/2 quarts low...

You could just loosen a corner of the pan and drain out a quart or so, if you used a rubber gasket with no RTV you might be able to button it back up without problems.
But your probably better off just dropping the pan, salvaging and reusing what fluid you can, and use a fresh gasket - And before you put it back on, consider installing a drain plug in the pan, they only cost $5 and takes 20 minutes to do, makes pan drops/fluid drains so much easier.

Whatever you do, DON'T use Lucas transmission fix!!! If you have a problem, fix it out-right!!!
