Default Spare Tire Size

I finally have enough money to replace all of my tires. All of them. Including my spare. It's an old tire covered in little cracks with almost no tread and I've been driving on it since July. Time to retire it as well.

I am getting 265/75R16 tires from treadwright.com. I went with the "Warden A/T" style, load rating E, by the way. If you think another one on there is better, insert your opinion.

Anyway. There are numerous threads on tire size, but none on spare tires. Is there a recommended size that will easily fit under the bed out of the way of things on the trail? What is the rim width?
My spare has a 235/85R16 tire on it. Is this size acceptable for a spare with 265/75s the main tire size? It seems to be just as tall, if not taller than the 265/75s.

My spare is a 245/70 R16 and it fits just fine. My other 4 tires are firestone destination A/T 255/70 R16 I like them enough to buy them again, which I will be doing pretty soon.

If you have a limited slip or locking differential on the rear of your truck, then the spare has to match the other tires in overall size (not width) or you can do damage to the differential when using it.

Alright, thanks. And oops. I'm currently using my mis-matched spare on the rear. I have a feeling my LSD is shot anyway, though. Still need to yank the cover and check it out.

my spare is 265 70 16 and it has a nice groove melted in the tread that matches up nicely with one of my exhaust pipes.
