Naa, that mesh looks cheap to me. I'm probably going to get some crash webbing cut and fitted for the gaps for use only when I put things in the bed.

Don't waste your money on a Harbor Fright bender. My bender was 250, and the Die was 300. There's a good reason for benders being so expensive. No Harbor Fright POS could handle 1 3/4 .120 DOM.

Is this designed to swing out?, if so, what kind of reinforcement ar you putting on the hinge side of the bed?

Yes it does swing out, no reinforcement is necessary. The steel at the end of the bed is 3/16th plate, and I sandwitched a 3/16th plate over that. I also drilled a hole at a lower point to accommodate another 1/2" bolt.

With the carrier opened 90 degrees and my 90lb friend sitting on the gate there is no metal flex at all.

As far as parts and angles, the plates are 3/16, the tubing is 1 3/4 .120 wall, the angles on the hoop are 45 degree. The lower member is the width of the bed.

That's as specific as I'm going to get, there's plenty of information there to build one.

you arent worried about the side of the bed folding in when you swing it out? that thing with a 35" tire on it must weigh around 220lbs.

No? You don't seem to realize how strong the end of the bed is at that point.

My truck doesn't have 35"s on it by the way.

Sorry for the double post, but I have an update!

I finally got around to welding up the carrier, and the bushings. I still am going to add an additional two members but this is pretty much the completed frame here.

I'm waiting on a 5x5.5 lug plate in the mail from AtoZ fab so I can use locking lug nuts to lock my spare down. Anyways, picture time. Sorry about the horrible pictures by the way:

and for all of you naysayers who think that this design wont hold up:

The carrier with a tire is about 100lbs, my friend sitting on there is about 240lbs. No flexing, whatsoever, anywhere. It barely deflects opened 90 degrees. Keep in mind, that the bed where it is mounted, is 3/16th plate, reinforced by 3/16 plate. It's bulletproof.

So anyways, just a quick update for you guys. I still need to paint, but I wont wont do that until I finish adding tubes and tabs for this or that.
