new engine
hey im trying to figure out what type of engine i could put in my truck i got a 5.2 right now but i want somethin big and loud somethin that is around 450+ hp what would u guys recommend
if your ready to dump ALOT of dough go for it. its gunna cost alot to get 450HP. IMO just get a 5.9 or the 8.0, and you'll notice a difference there alone, plus there is many upgrades that can be done to the 5.9.( not sure on the 8.0 but ask miami_son, he has an 8.0) Im in the process of beefing mine up (5.9), but im doing it over a period of time, doin sections at a time.
but like rideordie said, do a search there are many many threads on this.

1. get a 5.9L
2. Get a procharger kit for it.
3. Get a 9 lbs pully.
I know my dad has a mustang gt. With a procharger. 9 lbs pully and makes 472on the ground with a stock 4.7L. Delk performance tuned it and said that if he wanted more power they could get it but there was no way the motor would hold it.
So get you a 5.9 rebuild it with nice strong internals then procharge it.

If you want more torque (and the feel of more power) change the gears to 4.10 or if your running 33 or larger tires 4.56 gears....remember to do both axles if its 4wd ....that alone will cost you close to $1500 to do...
plus theres lots of mods and repairs you can do to your 5.2 to gain more power......check the plenum...check for deathflash put on headers and high flow air intake as well as opened up throttlebody..... these are all much more affordable than going with a full commitment project like a 408 which requires $$ and experience or good ties with a good shop. and lots of $$ for gas.. If you got that? go nuts.

Anything but a 5.9L V8 is going to require a transmission change as well. Big $$$ there, as that also means different sensors, different wiring, etc.
A stock tuned 5.9L V8 doesn't have much on the stock tuned 5.2L V8. The 5.9L V8 will get more horses from a proper computer tune than a 5.2L V8 will.
Easiest way to get that kind of HP, and probably cheapest, would be to trade it off for a slightly used 2009 Ram with the Hemi, or get a diesel with a tuner or tuned engine.

Agreed.
Getting the most out of what you already have for cheap is the best way. Adding a good air intake, exaust, plugs/wires/cap, chips, will benefit you more in the long run than gunning right for a muscle truck.
