Default Cruise Control

1996 2500 v10 laramie slt
I realized my cruise control doesn't work last night and that I have never used it in the 5 years that Ive had my truck. When I press the "ON" button the light turns on, but if I press (and hold) the "Set Cruise" button the cruise control does not engage. Does the cruise control have an independent wire that connects to the negative battery terminal? If it does that would explain the wire that is not connected to my negative battery terminal. Does it have a relay and/or fuse? I want to fix it so I don't have to worry about accidently speeding anymore. Thanks for any help!!!

Vac line or a switch inside the controls.

I don't know what it is. I looked around and gave up and decided to change the oil instead to satisfy my craving to improve the truck. I finished changing the oil and was trying to pour the old oil into the bottle that the new oil came in and I ended up dumping all of the oil on my shoes and pants and all over the driveway.... I used 5 quarts of 5w-30 and 2 qaurts of 10w-30. I'm not even sure how much the v10 holds or what kind to use....lol. At least I know it has enough. Yet another battle I have lost to fluids from my truck, it wasn't as the time I got gas in my ear when I was changing the fuel pump....

this might be random but it could be that switch behind the brake pedal, When mine was faulty the cruise didn't work.

just an idea.

you probably shouldn't be mixing different weight oils. also, the thing that fixed my cruise control that ALSO fixed my horn, was the clockspring inside the steering wheel. just hope thats not the problem, cuz the part is a dealer part that cost $200+...

ditto on the oil mixing thing.... general rule of thumb is if you live where it gets snow and cold use 5w-30 for winter and 10w-30 for warmer months....
I'm also curious about getting my cruise control working again...(along with AC)

Check the cruise switch on the steering wheel first. There's a DIY for it here:
