Default No part number from Dealer??

Hi Everyone,

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 318 engine. I am leaking gas from the quick disconnect fitting that goes on to the fuel pump on the gas tank. From the looks of the quick connect, the gasket inside cannot be replaced, so I called my dealer to order the new line and they tell me there is no part number for the quick connect. They faxed me the part page and sure enough, there are numbers for the clamps only. They said the fuel line itself is sold by the foot, but no quick connects are available.

How does one go about changing the fuel line if the quick connects are no longer available?

You have to replace the whole line, they didn't tell you that?

Yes, I would be happy to do that, but they (Dodge) said they don't sell the quick connects. All they have is the fuel line and they sell it by the foot. Again, the quick connects are on the diagram from their book, but there is no part number for them.

Here is the page from the parts book. You can see there are no numbers for the quick connects:

That's because it is part of the line, sold as one unit! Like I already stated.

Okay, so the dealer is saying there is no part number for it and the sell the lines by the foot off a bulk roll... no quick connects are available. I'm not sure how you can be so sure when the parts manager is telling me different! Trust me, the counter guy knows what I was talking about and so does the manager - they have no suggestions.

Does anyone know of a alternate or after market fix?

Yeah, I don't see the assembly listed in online catalogs. You might have to search out a salvage part.

That's what the dealer is telling me, but I really hate to use a salvage fuel line! I guess I'm going to have to find someway to retrofit another line on there and bypass the quick connector. I was thinking I might be able to flange the nipple on the pump and just put a clamp or 2 on there...
