Default mpg question

Im currently own a 98 dakota 318 4x4 club cab and its just too small for what I use it for/want to use it for. Im getting a ram im either going to get a 1500 with a 5.9 or a 2500 with a 8.0 or the 5.9 they would be 4x4 If I could find one in a 5 speed I would get it but I doubt I will be able to so ill have to settle with a auto. What mpg am I looking at with the 5.9 and the 8.0. Im really looking more for the v10 cause I like to be able to tow and not have to worry about power. So guys what are getting and if you have any mods that incresed mpg.

How much are you looking to tow? Depending on your mods and stuff, a 5.9 can get anywhere from 10 (or worse) to I've seen upper teens on straight highway.

A 8.0 is a lot worse. lol

yeah my friend had a regular cab long box 8.0 and if he kept his foot out of it he said he got around 8-9mpg. Then when he pulled demo cars he had no problem towing them just filling his gas tank at around 6-7 mpg. I got the 5.9 and get 13-14 but the biggest thing I pull is a 14ft aluminum boat or a pop up camper so I dont know the true pulling power of a 5.9l

I forgot to mention that it would be a ext cab short bed. I would be towing stuff from our 12 foot open trailer with the atv, rhino or skidsteer and our 20 foot enclosed trailer to our 30 foot camper. I figured the 8.0 would of been worse mpg is there any guys that are getting 10+ mpg if I would get 10-13 i would be happy

in good mechanical condition you're looking at about 13mpg for the 5.9 and 10mpg on the v10.

Yeah that's probably a little much for a v8, IMO. Is a diesel a possibility or is that out of your price range?

I have been getting 10-12 on my 8.0l
BUT this is not when towing anything.
Never towed anything over 20 miles or so so can't really comment on the MPG while towing

I will mostly be towing either stuck trucks out of the mud or the 20 foot landscape trailer hauling lots of different stuff so I dont care what the mpg is when towing and it wont be any more than like 40 miles or so and yes most cummins are out of my price range im looking at like 6-6,500 I did find one for 6,500 but had higher miles than i want(for a diesel) and it was pretty beat up.

Veeten if thats the mileage you are getting I would not mind that for mpg. im pretty used to that now.
