Default Issues / Questions 5.9

Alright, I've been wondering for some time now is my truck running rich. Well I just put a new exhaust on and a new muffler. The new tailpipe was black in only a few days. Is it normal? It's always seemed to run rich.

Also with the 46re having issues. Keeps hitting the rev limiter not all the time but often and what about kickdown on this transmission? It seems to selectively choose when it wants to kick down or just accelerate like a dog? I'd like to do some work on the tranny where should I start?

Dont know about your rich problem but I can tell you that properly adjusting your TV cable will help out with the trans issues you are having.

I've been trying to adjust it. I'm pretty close but I still don't understand the line up procedure unless I'm not reading it properly or just retarded. I accidentally screwed it up a while back when cleaning the throttle body never had it right since.

By "reading it properly", are you using the Haynes manual, the 2001 service manual, or some other manual?

Do you actually have a 3rd Gen with a 5.9? I've never heard of a 2002 1500 that was a 2nd Gen..

The reason you've never heard of it is because there isn't such a thing. All 2002s are 3rd gens, technically. They all have the newer body style.

However, they have 2nd gen engines/trannies/etc. So the 2001 or 2002 should both be OK.

I'm trying to spend more time in the 2nd gen forum since most of the 3rd gen hemi guys are clueless about our engines
