I have the best made truck ever. (1996 dodge ram 1500 4X4) and want to make it better. Now my dream is that i could put a 426 hemi in but as it is everyones dream its a little hard to reach. so as i looked into the hemi line i saw the 5.7L's. Seeing how that is easer to reach right now. I am looking for some info into if they are any good and for someone who has done this or something close.

well you would need to swap the whole engine computer and all the wiring and make it work with the gauges as well as swap the tranny..and it will still cost more than just buying a used 3rd gen with a hemi..that much I do know...not trying to put you down or anything just telling you how it is.
5.7L is overrated in my opinion. If you want more power, look into stroking it. If all you want is an offroad rig, drop a 440 in it. Both have been done before, whereas, I have yet to see someone drop a 5.7 in.
I see what you are saying but if someone were to come across a 3rd gen could all that be pulled out and put in my truck.
You would have to custom do EVERYTHING. Not saying it couldn't be done, but almost everything from engine mounts to how the transmission fits would have to be custom jobs. Not cheap.

I would go the cummins route but its been done and its not what I need i already have the 7.3 powerstroke to handle my heavy work I need something to take to shows and out to play. I would invest the time and money just to be the first and the only 2nd gen with the 5.7L hemi.
