1fast2liter I'm getting around 14mpg highway and 12 city when I'm not towing anything. That seems about right when compared to other 2nd gen Dodges (although it still sucks). I think the 8.5mpg was just due to running such high rpms for so long.

I doubt the air filter would. Lessee... when I moved to Tulsa from Phoenix, I pulled a 6x12 U-haul literally stuffed to the ceiling which included a washer/dryer and my roller cabinet.
The bed was full of stuff and so was the cab.
I think got about 9/10 mpg even when the tranny started to die. I even used my OD across the panhandle and ran about 65-70 mph.

I pull my gf's 16 ft aluminum V bottom boat, and it does down shift going up hills. I suspect it weighs about 1,000 lbs (with trailer) or better.

I know I don't have your tuner, but I have the rest of your mods (or similar)...thats why I suggested removing the tune and comparing your truck without it.

FYI...my truck has never done better than 13 mpg, and thats with the tailgate down, empty, @70 mph w a tailwind.

and i tow a single axle enclosed trailer w 2 sleds in it plus on it the bed and i got a lot better gas mileage than that plus the truck ran like nothing was behind it.
as you can see in the sig pic...

i towed my 4000lb scout with a 900lb motor in the bed 20 miles up and down hills back when my truck was all stock and i got around 7 or 8 mpg, but im pretty shure my plenum is going bad, but i did smash my hitch on a couple of hills though, haha

i towed this and i could tell it was there but didn't really have any bogging issues.

and i towed this 7000lb tractor and i don't know the weight of the trailer. my truck didn't like it too much because the guy that loaded it had it too far in front of the front axle on the trailer so there was a lot of tongue weight. that might explain my leaf springs flattening out a little.

there was also a couple other small tractors that my truck didn't care for, but it pulled them.

yea thats a good one

my truck pulls pretty damn good, a little sluggish getting up to speed sometimes, but once there, she barely works

Ok I think my tuner might have been set on 89 tune instead of tow mode. I remember thinking that I should switch it to tow mode but I must have gotten distracted by something. Do you think it could have made that big of a difference?
Next time I tow something I'll be sure to switch it to to mode and see what happens.

maybe power wise... but i dought it will change alot.... try it back stock and see. and try it in tow mode..... but their right pulling a trailer with or with out ne thing is drag.. you will suffer in fuel for it.... its what you get empty that counts really.... but if its a total dog then i would also check cap and rotor too. i also hear alot of people suffer on milage with the 180 t stat and colder plugs...
