2wd ball joints
I can't see that working out very well changing ball joints.
Doesn't matter if you hang it or set it wherever, point is to have a plan in advance, not when it comes off and your sitting there holding it, wondering what to do with it.
We may all know that, the OP, who seems to have perhaps lost interest in this project, probably doesn't.

Well, we're talking apples n oranges.
I have always taken the whole assembly off, and that you can't perch on the control arm or hang from a wire.
There is no need to go through that length of disassembly, taking off the bearing nut/caliper/brake shoes/rotor ect, to change ball joints, unless you are doing it for some other reason, or just like to do extra work.

I just changed 4 balljoints on my '95 Ram Sport. It's not that hard,..especially on a 1994 2 wheel drive. If totally.. not mechanically inclined, go on to the internet...type in on google, yahoo or??? : How to change balljoints on a 1994 Dodge Ram 1500-2x4. or check out DIY sites,..they have videos to watch so you're not going to start the feat "cold"...without a clue! rent the tool(mine was only $50 damage deposit and $30 per 24 hours.(bigger store chains wanted $245.00- $340.00+ ...outragious! and I even had to modify the kit...It had 3 of the same medium size "cups", (3" high steel pipe x 3" Dia. x 1/8" thick)...I cut one cup into a 70:30 ratio and used the small piece,...now..I could take the bottom balljoint out in just one "tool setup". **seriously,..check out videos,..know the task,..be safe..and DO IT!,.. good luck.

The milk crate is for setting your brake calipers onto so you don't damage your brake hose. *(I use a 1-gallon paint can,..It's tall enough for the job...plus it's smaller so it doesn't hinder your working space.
