Is this a good buy?
The only way to tell with the info you got is to check it out.Lots of factors to consider. You should be able to tell if it has been taken good care of or not by the paint and interior etc. If you like that, see how it drives, runs, shifts etc.
5 is to much i would say I bought my 97 about 8 months ago and i paid 3200 and it had 139,xxx, but it came with a lil lift and 33's and a double roll bar and nerf bars, a push bumper and a 700 watt sound system in it. I have had to replace the starter, battery, u-joints, and muffler the positive side was the tranny was rebuilt about 9 months before i bought it from a dodge dealership

geography is also a factor.....I know around here 4x4's tend to hold value more because of the harsh winters... check the local paper and craigslist....bottom line is if its worth it to you!....I think you could likely talk him down some....The guy I bought mine from was asking 6k...
I just picked up a 1999 RAM 1500, single cab, short bed for $1600. I bought it from the government auction up in Sacramento, CA and it is a decommissioned Cali Dept of Forestry truck with 184,000 miles. It looks, runs, and drives great and all I had to do was replace the water pump cause the bearing was chirping.
These guys are right $5k is to much. but you neglected to mention if its was 4wheel drive. if it was ext cab. if it was laramie, or basic. long bed, short bed, single cabe, good tires, scratchs scraps dings. aftermarket equp.
yea where you live does play a part in it here in texas the state used to determine how much it cost to switch ur title over based on how much you paied. Now its a % of how much they think the truck is worth they said mine was worth 4500 and its a laramie single cab long bed 4x4 so it just depends but i wouldnt pay 5 for it
