The BS story will not work. You have to provide a receipt from the dealership showing that they reflashed/replaced your PCM before Superchips will unlock the tuner for you. The good news is they usually do it for free if you can provide that receipt.

If you just want a tuner unlocked, no receipt or anything, they charge the $100-$150 or something to unlock it.

if you got one that was VIN locked, you'd be better off to return it (and pay shipping and GET A TRACKING #) and either get a refund voluntarily or file a paypal dispute.
This part I agree with.

good info. so i guess they treat that as - the customer's in a bad way. he has a piece of hardware. we'll sell him the software ONLY for the 100-150, as a goodwill/compromise gesture. we don't have to pay any sales commissions or distribution fees. we cover our costs. maybe make $50. everybody comes out ahead (or at least not too far behind). nobody can abuse the process to sell the tuners and make money from it.

the only way the gearhead customer actually comes out ahead is if he can get the VIN locked tuner for free, or almost free. i suspect that too many attempts to reload the same serial number would raise a flag and they'd call BS again.
