Default Bad Computer??

Ok guys and gals, I'm still working on my Dodge. "Everyone laugh." I am down to putting a new brain in it now. First I guess you call it a ECM. I don't know the difference between the ecm and the pcm. I think they told me I don't have a pcm. Anyways my question is, if I get one from an exact match as my truck, do I still need to get it programmed? I'm just trying to figure my problem out. I can get it programmed just wanting to know if I can plug it in and see if it fixes my problem. I just installed a gauge cluster thinking or hoping it would fix it and it didn't. The speedo starts jumping all over, which eventually trips the P0720 code and this time was stuck in 1st gear. Usually I can manually shift the gears and manage. I have changed the output speed sensor on trans/transfer and also changed the ABS speed sensor. So far I can't find anything. Any ideas?

Yes as long as the engine and other options are the exact same you can do that.
