Default Codes and fuel filter

Hey your guys i have an 1997 dodge ram and i was wondering how do i check to see if there r any codes? I am also having trouble with the fuel filter i believe cause i cant go above 40 mph when i rev the engine i get a hissing sound, and it does not feel like it has as munch as it did b4 can anyone help me?

The fuel filter is built in to the fuel pump. The issue your having might be with the cat. I could be clogged hence the trouble getting up to speed. If you have any present codes, they will manifest themselves via the CEL. However you can check the codes that once were there via a scan tool. (Moparama, I beat you on this one!!! JK)

I just had the cat change bout 3 years ago, i need 2 know asap cause this truck is for sale and my new truck is at my other house waiting for me (which is an 06 dodge)

that doesn't mean it won't fail on you again. check it. If you start to run rich, that will cause the cat to break up. If you think it's the fuel filter/pump, then hook up a test gauge and check it.

If the cat is bad, then you either have a problem with the emission systems or else bought a cheap cat. The cat should never have to be replaced. O2 sensors should be changed out ~50K miles regardless if they throw a code or not. Bad O2 sensors can lead to running lean, which in turn clogs the cat.
