taking motor out to rebuild it, should I 408 stroker or not?

when i get into pulling my motor and all that im going to see what the pistons look like and blah blah blah and if i didnt fudge them up im going to keep it the way it is and get some new heads, and reuse my 1.7s if possible.
If the pistons are fudged i might get the 408 stroker kit and just do it all at once.
Im not fully looking for extreme power, but turning 35s now and possibly 40s or 44s some day will take some power. And i just like working on the truck and seeing what it can do. idk maybe im just dumb but its something i do.
