My CAt is gutted and I didn't notice any MPG difference. I tried an O2 sim off the bat and the fn thing when haywire with my computer and took my tranny out. Wouldn't recommend those things. if you get a CEL try the spark arresters that some of the other members used for their rear o2 sensor. They seem to work keeping the sensor out of the exhaust stream and eliminating the CEL

Mine is the same way and clogged. I was also wondering if I could just cut it at the end and hammer the **** out of it, then rev the engine. This would just be a quick fix but I'm wondering if anyone has done it and had it work?

Crappy, mine had already been halfassed done when i got it, i just kinda finished it up, you can buy a two in one out pipe at any exhaust shop, that should do it.

My father did it to his Camaro and it still runs fine, but I figured I'd ask if there was any worse case scenarios...

I removed my cat last month, gutted it out with a hammer and a long metal bar. Worked great, installed a new o2 sensor and I havn't had any issues with check engine lights or anything. Makes the truck breath alot better!

Wink Gutting the Cat is funner than not doing it!

I toook the cat out, set it up on one end and used a heavy steel digging bar to break it up. After a bit of pounding, I stop and dumped it out, did it again till it was gone. Once I got a hole thru it, it came out quickly. I installed a 4" straight thru muffler and 4" exaust to the rear of the cat as it's 4" size already on my truck's cat end. Works great but looks legit.

I've heard that it's better to just drill a large hole through the honeycomb with a long masonry bit or something than to bust all of it out. No idea what the stuff is like to drill, I've only ever beat them out with a jack handle or something. I know on mine you can tell it's empty because its got a hollow, sorta tinny sound at the cat under load.

The local shop looked at me like I was an animal killer for not wanting to replace my cat. I think they hired PITA to sell exhaust! LOL. Either that or they work off commission. I don't have welding skills but you say they sell a piece to replace this? Or is it a backyard type repair?

Shoot the shop I took it too was telling me how they fool my trucks O2 sensors, but I had my own way.
Pretty much everyone I know has taken their cat out so PITA would have a fit if they came down here

Na you need to find you either a ghetto exhaust shop or a under the table kinda deal, these corp stations wont do jack for you cause they have to worry about the overhead coming down on them, but yea a typical exhaust shop should have the part you need, if not they can make it with minimal time.
