man your not having good luck with this truck....
I've never seen that one....sorry I would try unhooking negative on battery and turning it over and holding it in that position for 5 secs or so to reset the computer and then hook the battery back up.

Well i would definately be looking in the front for wiring damage. your 4x4 actuator is up front so check that out, and if your abs is messed up, your brake light will come on automatically. I would have the cel codes check to see what it is telling you if the wire search comes up empty.

the other lights may come back on.

Also i burnt the wiring on the ABS on my truck, th ABS light came on and no brake light came on, so just cuz ABS light is up doesnt mean its going to pop up the brake light.

Also you might want to test the alternator, ive blown alternators, and the way i notice they are dying is by watching all the gauge lights pop on.

Everytime I have seen the ABS light on, the brake light is on. I think you found your answer right there in the "burnt wiring".

When my buddy checks his engine codes, both come on, on his 97 together.
When the speed sensor goes, the abs and brake light come on together.
When my other buddys truck got messed up with the hypertech which knocked the speedo off, both lights came on.
When your ABS module can't communicate with your pcm because they arn't programed to talk, again both lights come on.

I am kind of bummed that you guys told him to disconnect the battery before getting the check engine light information. It is a lot easier for the computer to tell you something.. then to just guess at what the problem could be... like the above post. To be honest OP, your going to have to get ahold of DRB scan tool peferably to check your abs stuff at minimum
