Yeah wish i would have known that, the guy who sold it to me gave me a programmer thing to check the codes, can i use it even if the light is off?

Hook it up and see, if whatever problem there is persists it should eventually throw a code for it again.
But if you can find someone with a scan tool that'll feed you alot more info than a simple code reader.
Also, like suggested, make sure your ALT is putting out 14 V, you'll need a multimeter to do that.

How do you check ABS codes with a scan tool?
I thought they were on a seperate plug and required dealer only code reader.

I dunno.
Scan tools have access to all electronic data in a vehicle, I would presume that includes ABS but I could be wrong, never had ABS problems.
