pcm swap
well took my truck to the shop and drove around with the mechanic with the ol snapon scanner and the pcm keeps dropping out. which causes the truck to die momentarly and come back. I tested prong 2 22 31 32 and all is well so it looks like the pcm is going bad. so i can get one for 100$ Any imput on the swap.
Swap is easy.
1. Disconnect Battery 10mm
2. remove 3 pcm plugs
3. remove 3 8mm head screws
Reverse order for installation and your done. I can swap it in and out in under 5 minutes now I have done so many times recently. Try to get the same pcm (4 digit number on the pcm) and have your vin programmed. After that.. you should be golden hopefully.

years ago I had an 89 Beretta GT, 2.8L auto. Well, I ended up having to change the computer in it, and got one out of a 2.8 5 speed Z24. Now I know these are the old OBD1 pcms in a chev, but they have a removeable chip with all the cars info, VIN, drivetrain, etc. specific to that car/model, but the computers are the same. Dunno what our pcms are like, I haven't dealt with any obd2 pcms yet...
Well, with that old chev, the new pcm worked great, she fired right up and ran fine. Until I got goin, then as soon as the tranny shifted the car bucked and died every time, then start right back up fine. After a couple of miles of this, I realized that the new pcm had the Z24 chip in it, so it thought it was a 5 speed and went wonky when it shifted itself..... it worked like a top for years after I changed that chip on the side of the road
might help ya out, might not....

Let me know how it goes. Looks like I might have the same problem. I have been fighting mine for 3 months now, with a P0720 and speedo going nuts. Today the tach was jumping and odometer was flashing. Then after work it started then shut off, and now won't start at all. It has no dash idiot lights at all door locks won't work, seems to have no juice but it will crank over just fine. I've replaced speed sensors on trans and rearend, and changed gauge clusters and now the only thing I know to do is change the PCM. Good Luck.
The swap is easy as listed above. Not sure on what it costs to have the flash done. I bought a rebuilt one from a company in Ft. LAuderdale that came all ready to go. Just had to plug it in. Cost me 275.00 also came with a 12 month warrany replacement.
Be aware that on one of the 3 screws that hold the PCM to the firewall, there is likely going to be a ground wire. Make sure you put that back when you install the new PCM.
What year is your truck? You could try to get a Mopar Performance PCM if you can find one.

he's right, it's imperitave that ground is hooked up...
....different machine, same concept....
our JD 9550 combine (sold, bought a NEW 9670 STS) anyway, a few years back on that machine a ground wire broke on one of the onboard computers, giving us all kinda hell, lights, buzzers, you name it. replaced the computer, no fix, finally knocked some chaff loose from it and found the broken wire, spliced and heat shrinked it....
....worked like a charm
