Interesting Information
I got all excited like a little kid before christmas yesterday because I knew when I got home my HS Rockers would be sitting on the front porch ready to install.
Got home there they were opened the box and out falls a little piece of paper. "warning to ensure proper life and waranty soak overnight in a "break-in" oil containing zinc overnight. Crap well I want it to last so I stroll down to an unnamed auto parts store and say give me some Royal Purple break-in oil. Guys asks why and I explain. He says it would be better to use a Diesel oil Rotella-T it is higher in Zinc. I used to own a diesel and am familiar with this oil so I say cool.
Did a little research and found 2 things. 1. Diesel oil with zinc is better for a gas engine with a flat tappet cam and 2. Rotella-T has gone away from zinc as well.
It all has to do with emissions stuff but now I am not sure if the oil I used to soak them has the zinc it needs in it (CI-4 had zinc, CJ-4 nope) and now gotta decide if I am gonna resoak them or not.
Just a little nugget of info do a
